Magnetic Badges - Access Control System

Magnetic badges (or magnetic cards) are the most used technology because they have important advantages:

  • they are cheap
  • a widely tested technology
  • duplicability is not so easy (unless you have an encoder)
  • long life span
The magnetic badges are usually divided in two categories:
  • low coercivity of which strip is usually composed by ferric oxide
  • high coercivity of which strip is usually composed by barium ferrite
Obviously the last type has a better quality.

Three tracks are present in the magnetic badges:

  • ISO 1 track (high zone) composed by 79 alphanumeric characters coding density: 210 bpi
  • ISO 2 track (medium zone) composed by 40 numeric characters coding density: 75 bpi
  • ISO 3 track (low zone) - composed by 107 alphanumeric characters coding density: 210 bpi
